Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to F Howard Collins, Churchfield, Edgbaston |
Date | 10 December 1892 |
Description | Foster may have a case for Collins' promised gift [to assist biological investigation]. A young Chinaman from Singapore who had been sent to study at Edinburgh under a Straits Settlement Scholarship, has come to work at Cambridge. He shows remarkable talent in original enquiry and is now engaged under Professor [Charles Smart] Roy in some investigation concerning the heart and the white blood corpuscles. This gentleman's scholarship is ending and Foster is making efforts to have it renewed but there seems more reason to think that such scholarships are given for education not research.
If Collins approves his gift will enable this gentleman to go on for a while until the Society obtain him something else. Unless immediate help can be obtained the gentlemen will have to make arrangements for his return to Singapore. |
