TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to Sir Thomas Villiers, Foreign Office
Date27 December 1892
DescriptionIn reply to Villiers' letter of the 19th with enclosures, Foster is authorised by the President to reply at once that the Royal Society cordially accept the suggestion that observers of the two countries should come to an understanding with reference to the course of their labours of observation, and that Mr A Common FRS, the Secretary of the Eclipse Committee, is prepared to go over immediately to Paris, with full instructions and authority for conferring directly with Monsieur Faye.

Anticipating that such action will prove agreeable to the French Authorities, and in view of the steps which such a conference may render desirable, it will be unnecessary presently to enter into further details. Foster is to express the hope that Her Majesty's Ambassador at Paris will make known once more to Monsieur Ribot the grateful appreciation by the Royal Society for the facilities which he is offering to the British Expedition.
