TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Gustav Steffen, 6 St Kildd's Road, Harrow on the Hill
Date10 July 1893
DescriptionRix explains that they are looking to appoint a man with a knowledge of languages and 'gift for scientific classification' to supervise the making of a subject catalogue or index to the Royal Society's 'Catalogue of Scientific Papers', which is currently only indexed by authors' names. The engagement is due to last two to three years.

He asks whether Steffen might like to take on the role, or whether he is already fully engaged. Rix explains that there will also be two copyists to undertake the 'mechanical part'. If Steffen is inclined to accept, Rix advises that he visit him as soon as possible that week, between 11am and 4pm any day except Saturday.
