Professor Oliver believes Il. Lloyd and Galton should both come before Board E, and he supposes that it will be enough to put them on the agenda paper when Board E meet.
Professor Harry Govier Seeley's paper, passed at the last Committee of papers, will cost 28 pounds for plates and cuts, and Rix is waiting to know whether he may put this in hand.
Professor Burdon Sanderson has declined to report upon Risien Russell's paper owing to the press of work. Rix notes that the paper has already been to Sherrington, Langley - who did not report, and Schafer. He asks if Foster will name a referee in Sanderson's place.
Incloses letters which have yet to be answered, from Professor Cash about Dr Pomfret's paper; from Mr Turner about the proposed Joint Solar Eclipse Committee; from General Strachey about Government Grant matters.
Incloses an offer of an exhibit from Mr Poulton, but as they have too many lantern exhibits already, Rix asks if he should accept for June. He also asks if he should accept another inclosed offer from H N Dickson.
Rix asks if he should send invitations in response to inclosed applications from Professor Bonney, Dr Sclater, Mr Sorby and Mr Scott.
Professor Lockyer has advised that if Foster wants the room at the Metropole for a Wednesday in November, he will have to book it now.
Clay & Sons have asked whether the presentation list for volume 10 of the 'Catalogue of Scientific Papers' requires revision, and notes that it will be ready for delivery in around three weeks.
W H Thompson of University College, London applied too late for a grant last year, and so intended this to be registered as an application for this year. A misunderstanding has meant that it was not included in the book, but Lord Rayleigh has authorised Rix to print it as a supplementary leaf and circulate it to members of the Committee.
Rix encloses a list of papers on hand for Foster to mark and return at once for 'Nature'. |
