TitleCopy letter from John Evans, to Charles Chree, Secretary to the Kew Committee, Kew Observatory, Richmond, Surrey
Date25 July 1894
DescriptionEncloses a cheque for 241 pounds, 13 shillings and four pence as payment to the Kew Committee from the Gassiot Trust, and a further cheque for 89 pounds, seven shillings and eight pence of income tax which they have recovered, minus the accountant's commission. Evans asks for receipts for these amounts.

In response to Chree's inquiry concerning sources of income, he explains that the payments to the Kew Committee are the interest on the 10,000 pounds Italian Irrigation Bonds, minus taxes. The Trust also holds 400 pounds in the two and three quarter per cent Consolidated Stock, which is an accumulation of the differences between moneys received from Bonds drawn and the price of Bonds bought to replace them; with the Interest on this sum used to meet depreciation in the value of the Bonds.
