DescriptionIn 1946-1947 GD Rochester and CC Butler, working with Blackett in Manchester, obtained the first photographs of V-particles. Their results were published in 'Natur', 160, 855. In 1949 the cloud chamber and magnet which Rochester and Butler had used to obtain their photographs was moved from Manchester to the Observatory on the Pic du Midi in the Hope of photographing new tracks (see letters to Carl Anderson, 5 December 1949 and 26 April 1950, in B.48).
