DescriptionPress cuttings and other printed information concerning the Royal Society's Fellows. Compiled by the organisation's staff. Cuttings include obituary notices of Fellows of the Royal Society, notably Henry Walter Bates (pp.32-33) and Alfred, Lord Tennyson (pp56-58). There are notices of university intelligence and the Queen's honours. Some letters to editors are present, including on controversies, notably between Victor Horsley and anti-vivisectionist Frances Power Cobbe (1822-1904) (pp.59-60). There are several portraits of Fellows, drawn from the 'The Machinery Market and Exporter'.
Additionally, profiles of Fellows, including Lord Kelvin (pp.41-42) and a series of pen-portrait descriptions with the general title of the "Echo" Portrait Gallery. A manuscript index appears at the end of the volume.

Generally, the cuttings are attributed to the source newspaper and dated in manuscript. The volume contains many blank pages - most cuttings have been pasted to the recto side only and the original manuscript pagination omits the blank verso pages. A paper label on the cover is inscribed: 'Royal Society. Scraps. Biographical. March 27, 1885 to February 11, 1888. Indexed.'
