TitleDiagrams, the stomach and spleen by C B [Charles Barrett] Lockwood
CreatorLockwood; Charles Barrett (1856-1914); British surgeon
Date1884
DescriptionTwo pages of diagrams, labelled figures 1-3 and figures 1A-5A. Caption of first page reads 'Three diagrams shewing. 1. The stomach attached by a simple mesogastrium. 2. The mesogastrium looped owing to the turning of the stomach upon its right side. 3. The position of the spleen in the looped mesogastrium.' Caption of second page reads 'Diagram 1 [1A]. Stomach attached to spine by a simple mesentery, mesogastrium. Diagram 2 [2A]. Mesogastrium looped and with pancreas between its layers. The colon is attached by its own mesentery. The fossa between mesogastrium and mesentery is very deep and intervenes between pancreas and spine. The succeeding figures [3A-5A] show how the fossa gradually disappears and permits the pancreas to come in contact with the spine and leaves the colon between two layers of transverse mesocolon.' These diagrams are accompanied by eight corresponding engraved prints.

Subject: Anatomy / Physiology / Embryology

The prints were published in volume 38 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society alongside the paper 'The development of the arteries of the abdomen and their relation to the peritoneum'.
