DescriptionUnpublished illustrations, apparently intended for the paper by Humphry Davy. A slip of paper with safety lamp designs (recto and verso) attached to a single page of text (original pagination 21), the latter endorsed 'London Novr. [November] 9 1815'. The drawings are inscribed with proposed publication and plate details but each bears the note 'cancelled'. The slip (original pagination 17-18) bears the title (recto) 'Fig 1 Common safe lantern' and continues (verso) with figures 2-4. Not signed. Royal Society stamp on text sheet.

Subject: Engineering

Created in relation to Humphry Davy's paper in Philosophical Transactions titled 'On the fire-damp of coal mines, and on methods of lighting the mines so as to prevent its explosion'.

Read to the Royal Society on 9 November 1815.
