Description | Plate 1 showing an external view of the organs of hearing in the bowhead whale. The work is inscribed above with publication and plate details. Signed lower left 'W. Clift del. 1811.' Royal Society stamp verso. The animal was procured for Everard Home by William Scoresby from Greenland whaling grounds. The cranium was salted and transported to London for dissection.
