The work is inscribed above with publication and plate details in ink, repeated in pencil. Inscribed 'N.S.W. Cassowary 4 inches to a foot' lower right, with the plate number repeated again. Not signed; the note 'del.' appears lower left but is not completed. Royal Society stamp verso.

Published in Philosophical Transactions as part of paper titled 'A description of the solvent glands and gizzards of the ardea argala, the casuarius emu, and the long-legged casowary from New South Wales' by Everard Home.

Read to the Royal Society on 17 December 1812.
