Title | Referee's report by Richard Tetley Glazebrook, on a paper 'The refractive indices of fluorite, quartz, and calcite' by J William Gifford |
Date | 4 March 1902 |
Description | Sectional Committee: not stated.
He has been in correspondence with the author. The method of calculating the results requires further explanation and justification than is given in the paper. The author should modify paragraph one and ask permission to introduce a note of proof which he has sent him, and the author has expressed his readiness to comply. Appendix one needs alteration in order to clarify the method.
With regards to remarks in paragraph six and to appendices two and three, he has suggested it would be sufficient to publish the curves[?] showing the relation between the focal length and the wave length. The almost perfect achromatism of the author's combination seems worthy of note. Recommends the paper be returned to the author for modification, and subject to the alterations being satisfactorily carried out, the paper be presented. The author wishes to include a statement regarding densities, which he has found to be different, and a few lines on this point would be useful.
