Title | Referee's report by Edwin Bailey Elliott, on a paper 'Combinational analysis - the foundations of a new theory' by Percy Alexander MacMahon |
Date | May 1900 |
Description | Sectional committee: Mathematics
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions in full, no modification is necessary and all the illustrations are necessary. The paper is an exposition of novel and valuable methods, originally and enthusiastically displayed. A little fuller patent expression of facts and more precise references to the author's earlier work would increase the number of people who could read the paper with full advantage. Includes a list of notes comprising nine points, which the Committee may submit to the author. These indicate with references to the page number of the original paper, where a reference or fuller explanation of a point is required, for instance on page six the author deals with the 'left hand D' first rather than the right hand, which is entirely at variance with ordinary usage in differential calculus.
