There is little hope of the results being published in South Africa as the observations were carried out in the author's own spare time. The Government of South Africa have made no contribution towards the work, 'and, knowing the attitude of the Government towards applications for grants for scientific publications, it would be useless to approach the Government for funds'. The Cape Town Magnetic Observatory was not in operation when the author undertook his observations, and has not yet published any Annals, and likely has no funds for such publications. The Department of Terrestrial Magentism at the Carnegie Institution assisted both the author, and the opening of the Cape Town Magnetic Observatory, so could be asked to cover costs of publication, unless no British sources of funds are available. The most suitable place for publication would be the Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa, but the cost of publication would likely be beyond their means. Could the Royal Society make a grant towards publication by the Royal Society of South Africa? The Philosophical Transactions has previously published magnetic surveys by George Walker Walker.
