TitleReferee's report by Marcus Laurence Elwin Oliphant, on a paper 'The electric structure of solid dielectrics in relation to the theory of electronic breakdown' by A E W Austen and S Whitehead
DateJanuary 1940
DescriptionSectional committee: Physics

Not recommended for publication in Proceedings. Details of experimental work need to be added, as it is 'very wrong' to publish the paper without letting readers being able to weigh up experimental work. Reference should be made to the work of Seegar and Teller. The results have been followed as a side issue of dielectric work for the British Electric and Allied Industries Research Association, and so they should be published. The paper would be better off published in the Journal of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, Philosophical Magazine or Nature.

[Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society A, 1940 as 'The electric strength of some solid dielectrics'].

Endorsed on verso as received 20 January 1940.
