Title | Referee's report by George Neville Watson, on a paper 'Asymptotic formulae for hypergeometric functions' by Thomas MacFarlane Cherry |
Date | 1949 |
Description | Sectional committee: Mathematics
He finds the paper quite unreadable and has tried to read it several times but still hasn't finished it. His difficulty in reading arises form the 'journalism' of the paper. However, he doesn't think the author's arguments are inaccurate. The abridged symbolism is unfortunate as it 'does not bring out the individuality of the functions'. The analysis is 'dull' and some of the details could have been omitted. Doubts whether the table would fit into Proceedings.
