TitleLetter from William George Penney, on three papers 'Electronic wave functions. III. Some theorems on integrals of antisymmetric functions of equivalent orbital form', 'Electronic wave functions. IV. Some general theorems for the calculation of Schrodinger integrals between complicated vector coupled functions for many electron atoms' and 'Electronic wave functions. V. Systematic reduction methods for all Schrodinger integrals of conventional systems of antisymmetric vector coupled functions' by Samuel Francis Boys, to D C Martin, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society
Date23 October 1950
DescriptionPaper reference code: A180-182

Penney remarks on the troubling he is having with Boys three papers and refers to a reply he received from John Edward Lennard-Jones regarding this [see RR/73/241]. In light of Lennard-Jones 'statements' Penney recommends the paper should be accepted. He suggests a letter be sent to the author to address the complex subject of the papers, and consider readers who are not in contact with him, otherwise 'only his own students will be able to use his theorems and technique'.

Written at Ministry of Supply, Fort Halstead, Sevenoaks, Kent [England].

[All three published in Proceedings A, 1951].

Endorsed on recto as received 25 October 1950.
