TitleReferee's report by Daniel John Cunningham, on a paper 'The exact histological localisation of the visual area of the human cerebral cortex' by Joseph Shaw Bolton
DateMay 1900
DescriptionSectional committee: Physiology

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. The following modifications should be made: remarks regarding the vascular supply of the visual area might be omitted; only facts which bear directly on the condition of the cerebral cortex should be given in the clinical histories; slight degree of repetition might be avoided. The delimitation of the occipital lobe is particularly objectionable but in this Bolton is only following the lead of Eberstaller and Schafer. Lists numbers of illustrations which might be omitted, a large number of the illustrations may also be reduced in size by about a quarter. The paper is well conceived, the research laborious and the results of high interest and considerable practical importance. Particularly interesting that the visual sensory cortex apparently has a special histology of its own.
