Title | Referee's report by Augustus Desire Waller, on a paper 'An artificial retina and the theory of vision' by Jagadish Chunder Bose |
Date | 10 July 1900 |
Description | Sectional commitee: Physics and chemistry
Not recommended for publication. The physiological portion of the paper is 'poor'. Known facts are misconceived and theories built on loose analogies Bose has never had retinal current under his observation. With regards to the demonstration of altered electrical resistance in a 'substance' sensitive to light, the demonstration appears weak. No serious fact or argument in support or criticism of any theory of vision is given. The comments on the subjective phenomena of dreams and hypnosis are superfluous in a serious paper.
