TitleReferee's report by Charles Vernon Boys, on a paper 'The tempering of iron hardened by overstrain' by James Muir
DateAugust 1900
DescriptionSectional committee: Physics and chemistry

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. The latter portions of the paper might be shortened as the diagrams give practically all the information when the first one or two have been gone through at length. The latter diagrams supplemented by notes would serve the purpose of the letterpress, but does not urge this strongly. All the illustrations should be reproduced with the exception of the photograph on page two which is not useful. Suggests the 'rather slovenly expression' on pages eight, 11, 16 and 28, 'due to' be replaced with 'in consequence of'.

[Published in Philosophical Transactions A, 1902].

Endorsed on verso as received 23 August 1900.
