Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. This long paper contains the results of numerous observations of the phenomena of which the most novel are those relating to the phenomena of the electrical response, and the action of voltaic currents and of condenser discharges on plant tissues. The defect of the research is that the methods of observing the order of succession and duration of the phenomena are crude. Lists the observations which may be designated as discoveries. The statement that when there is a mechanical response as well as an electrical, the two are 'strictly concomitant' is at variance with the author's own observations and not founded on any exact determination of the time at which the two responses occur. On the whole Sanderson thinks the paper interesting but questions whether all that is of value has not already been published by the author. Thinks the paper not adapted for publication in the 'Transactions' as the observations although genuine are very crude and inexact and because the paper contains misstatements such as the latter described. If it is thought desirable that the paper should be published the 'so-called curves' should not appear. The inexactness of the method by which they were obtained renders them valueless.
