TitleReferee's report by Sydney John Hickson, on a paper 'The oocyte of Tomopteris' by Mr Wallace
Date25 July 1903
DescriptionSectional Committee: [Zoology]

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. Hickson thinks the author should be advised to postpone publication until the observations have been extended and the illustrations are ready. The publication of the paper in its present form without illustrations will not carry much weight. An abstract of the paper could be published in Proceedings. Hickson describes what he thinks is the principle point of the paper. There is a good deal of careful work described, particularly that on the reaction of the various granules, both in the nucleus and cyptoplasm, to different stains, and this is valuable. The work seems perfectly genuine and the author well acquainted with the literature and methods of the work in hand. It would be useful for cytologists to know that this particular research is nearly ready for publication.
