LevelItem
TitleThird referee's report by Edward Waymouth Reid, on a paper 'Mechanical and electrical response in plants' by Jagadis Chunder Bose
Date26 November 1904
DescriptionSectional Committee: Botany and Physiology

The so called record sent by Bose, so far as Reid can discern, is a photographic reproduction of a tracing obtained by the method exhibited by Bose at the Belfast meeting of the British Association, at which Reid was present. Reid briefly describes the method but explains why this cannot be styled a method of record since its veracity, even for such slow motions as those dealt with, depends upon the point of light being kept at exactly the same point of the block by hand motion. The so called record does not constitute scientific evidence of the simultaneity claimed and in Reid's opinion the author should be asked to produce a direct photographic record.
