Title | Referee's report by William Burnside, on a paper 'The Basic-Gamma-Function and the Elliptic Functions' by Reverend F H Jackson |
Date | December 1904 |
Description | Sectional Committee: Mathematics
Not recommended for publication as it stands. At the most, the part of the paper from page 26 to the end, with a few new paragraphs to introduce it, is all that should be published. There are no illustrations. In the first 25 pages of this paper the author reproduces a considerable number of formula which in one shape or another appear in most of the text books on elliptical functions. Burnside is entirely at a loss to realize the author's object or point of view in the earlier part of the paper. Regarding the later part of the paper from page 26 to the end, he does not like to express a very definite opinion. So far as he knows, many of the formulae given are new, and are certainly not without interest from a formal[?] point of view.
