TitleReferee's report by Hugh Longbourne Callendar, on a paper 'The construction of some mercury standards of resistance, with a determination of the temperature co-efficient of resistance of mercury' by Frank Edward Smith
DateMarch 1904
DescriptionSectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry

Not recommended for publication in its present form, if at all. If published the letter press should be greatly curtailed; and the tables limited to one example of each type. It seems absurd to give full calibration details for all the tables as an appendix. If published it would be sufficient to give one of the calibration curves as an example. In general, the paper is an excellent piece of work, but it contains little that is new in method or principle. It appears better suited for the 'Reports of the National Physical Laboratory', but in any case it is too diffuse and the tables are too elaborate and numerous.
