TitleReferee's report by George James Burch, on a paper 'Modified apparatus for the measurement of colour and its application to the determination of the colour sensations' by William de Wiveslie Abney
DateMay 1905
DescriptionSectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry

The paper should be published in full in Philosophical Transactions, after correction of verbal errors, some of which he has indicated on the manuscript. All the illustrations should be reproduced. The paper describes a noteworthy modification of the author's colour-patch apparatus which Burch thinks adds greatly to its value. In recommending the paper for publication Burch is not accepting the criticism on page six to eight of his own views and is prepared to refute this. The author's theory differs from that of Hesing as regards the primary colour sensations, and from that of Young and Helmholtz as regards white. So that it may be adequately discussed it is essential the entire paper be printed, the propriety of the reasoning resting on the judgement of the author.
