TitleReferee's report by Raphael Meldola, on a paper 'Further observations on the germination of the seeds of the castor oil plant (ricinus communis)' by Joseph Reynolds Green and Henry Jackson
Date6 May 1905
DescriptionSectional Committee: Botany

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. The whole paper requires division into sections and appropriate paragraph headings to indicate the contents of the various sections. As is stands it is too solid a block of statements. The descriptions of the details of analytical processes might advantageously be curtailed in many cases. The paper is a very useful contribution to their knowledge of the chemical processes going on in the germinating seed of a plant. Owing to the practical difficulties of the work, many points have been left undecided, such as the nature of the organic acid of the sap. He does not consider the paper exactly of Transactions rank. Publication in the Proceedings would be quite sufficient.
