Title | Referee's report by Dukinfield Henry Scott, on a paper 'Some observations on welwitschia mirabilis hook-f' by Professor Henry Harold Welch Pearson |
Date | 28 October 1905 |
Description | Sectional Committee: Botany
Scott thinks the paper should be published in Philosophical Transactions in full. He has only two or three trivial modifications to suggest; on page 46 an impossible accuracy of measurement is attempted which looks absurd and should be altered. On page 53, figure two, 'ovlue' should be 'nucellus', the statement on page 80 that cells without cell-contents grow is 'startling'. It would be best if all the illustrations were reproduced but figures seven, ten, 14, 18 and 31 are less important than the rest but it would not be worth omitting these unless there was a question of saving a plate. In general the paper is very interesting as adding essentially to knowledge of one of the most remarkable and isolated genera of plants, and as throwing considerable light on its affinities.
