TitleReferee's report by Andrew Russell Forsyth, on a paper 'A generaliziation of the functions xn and gamma (n)' by Reverend F H Jackson
Date16 December 1903
DescriptionSectional Committee: Mathematics

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. In additional manuscript notes Forsyth explains that the paper does not appear to satisfy the requirement of marking a distinct step in the advancement of natural knowledge. The quantities considered by the author occur as special cases of coefficient in the generalised hypergeometric series considered by Heine as long ago as 1846. The work should be published somewhere but he thinks it is too limited in range and not sufficiently important for the Transactions.

Annotated by Joseph Larmor that the Chairman might consider after the next referee's report, whether a condensed abstract of five pages of the Proceedings might be offered to the author.

[Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, 1904].
