TitleReferee's report by William Sharpey, on a paper 'An experimental inquiry into the nature of the metamorphosis of saccharine matter, as a normal process of the animal economy' by Frederick William Pavy
Date13 June 1855
DescriptionNot recommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. Refers to work of Claude Bernard into sugar in the blood of animals. Refers to work of Eilhard Mitscherlich, Jean-Baptiste Dumas and Jean-Baptiste Joseph Dieudonné Boussingault. Suggests a 'copious abstract' in the Proceedings will suffice to make the author's views known and 'secure his priority'. Suggests, as the author is still conducting researches, that a fuller paper be written for the Transactions when the author has further results. The author uses outdated terms for liquid (living) and coagulated (dead) blood, which although once used in British Schools of Physiology, are no longer relevant.
