TitleReferee's report by Charles Wheatstone, on a paper 'On the periodic and non-periodic variations of the temperature at Toronto in Canada, from 1841 to 1852 inclusive' by Edward Sabine
Date16 February 1853
DescriptionRecommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. Refers to Bessel's formula. Reviewer believes his practical experience of meteorological measurements is too limited to give criticism of the processes used in the paper. Considers the author's terminology of 'chrono-isothermal lines' to be of great service. Is not sure if the Philosophical Transactions is the best place for publication; similar tables of measurements for other places (St. Helena, Cape of Good Hope) have been published by the Government. Reviewer is of the belief that specialised papers of detail, for example observations or measurements without accompanying new or important results, are not best suited for the Philosophical Transactions.
