TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Dr David Criswell, Lunar Science Institute, 3303 NASA Road 1, Houston, Texas
Date4 February 1974
DescriptionStates that it is very interesting, he had not heard about Cernan's observations at all.

Gold had asked for such observations to be made and documented by photography from lunar orbit. The answer came back from Slayton's office, that this could not be done since it posed a hazard to require the astronauts to look into the direction of the Sun which they might inadvertently do. States this is a lot of nonsense.

He is sure Criswell's explanation is correct, although Gold does not quite see the physics of the process.
