TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Professor P A Sturrock, Institute for Plasma Research, Via Crespi, Stanford University, Stanford, Calilfornia
Date19 October 1976
DescriptionStates that he understood the proposed method of working and approved of it heartily, provided that of course the choice of the principal topics selected for investigation is a good one. This choice seems to him to be the essential step. The people too deeply immeresed may fail to recognize the crucial questions; those too far and too lofty may not know what can be brought within grasp. Gold had hoped that some of his general discussion would help in this selection process, whatever else he might contribute later.

However, Sturrock's letter seems to rule that out, for the new date selected is one for which Gold is already heavily committed. It does not seem appropriate for Gold to be associated with this and not go to the first meeting, and so he must decline. He is very sorry that the date was changed, and that the information about this did not reach him in time to alter his schedule.
