DescriptionEncloses his report [not included with this letter] 'concerning the test facility for fast surface transportation'. Says that he spent time in England investigating the situation there. Tells Mr Friedman about the NPL Whirling Arm facility, which has been taken away from the NPL and erected at the Aeronautical College at Cranfield, and about the characteristics of the Whirling Arm. Says that the RAF Institution of Aviation and Medicine has a rotating arm 'which is only used as a centrifuge but can be used for aerodynamic purposes also'. Talks briefly about the Princeton test facility 'which is a straight track for vehicle speeds up to 100 ft per second'. Concludes the letter by saying that 'there was no question that all the kpeople I talked to considered high speed ground effect flying a very important field of the future and all agreed that special test facilities for this purpose would have to be built'.
