TitleLetter from Thomas Gold to Manchester Guardian Weekly, London, England
Date27 November 1967
DescriptionRegarding the lunar surface and an article written about it. Says that 'The material [on the moon] has the consistency and particle size in accord with my published views, namely a fine-grained, crunchy material of particle size 20 microns or less. One would call such a material a fine rock dust made slightly cohesive in the vacuum conditions. This deduction which was originally based on a variety of complex evidence has now proved entirely correct. Not only is there no hot debate any more, as your correspondent reported, but all the investigators on the Surveyor program have reached similar conclusions; and none believe any more that hard rock or volcanic or vesicular lava has the correct consistency to account for the observations'.
