AdminHistoryIn 1950, there was a campaign at Cambridge University to elect Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister of India and a Cambridge graduate, as Chancellor of the University, which Thomas Gold supported. However, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru said that he did not want to enter an election contest for the Chancellorship and asked that his nomination be withdrawn. Marshal of the Royal Air Force Lord Tedder, the only other candidate, was elected to the position.
