DescriptionContains copies of a commentary by Thomas Gold entitled, 'Is NASA an expensive failure?', which was published in 'Nature', Vol 366, 22/30 December 1993. Also contains faxes about the publication of the commentary in 'Nature', 8 December 1993-16 January 1994. Also includes faxes between Gold and Martin Redfern, dated 22-23 December 1993, about Gold doing a short interview for the BBC World Service about the need for short planetary missions. Redfern had read Gold’s commentary in 'Nature'. There is also a letter from David Howell to Thomas Gold, dated 13 Dec 1993, along with three letters he enclosed, dated 8 July, 13 July and 30 August 1993, regarding the publication of Gold's paper, 'The origin of methane in the crust of the earth' in David G Howell (ed), 'The future of energy gases', US Geological Survey Professional Paper 1570 (United States Government Printing Office, Washington, 1993. Some scientists objected to the publication of Gold's paper in the Professional Paper.
