Forest entomologist to the government of India (1911); left India for health reasons and appointed reader in agricultural entomology at the Victoria University, Manchester (1913); crop-pest inspector and reporter for the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries (1914-1918); chief entomologist at the experimental station at Rothamsted Experimental Station in Harpenden (1918); appointed to a newly established readership at Cambridge (1931); retired (1945).
