| OtherInfo | After leaving Rouen, Auzout became a member of the circle of French mathematician Marin Mersenne, who was also a correspondent to Fellows such as Samuel Sorbiere (FRS 1663) or Theodore Haak (FRS 1663). The group of natural philosophers who gathered at Colbert's residence for astronomical observations can be seen as a precursor to the Académie des Sciences. He was involved in some academic disputes with both Hevelius (FRS 1663) on comet predictions and William Petty (FRS 1663) on ancient architecture and statistics. |
