OtherInfoDuring his studies, van Beuningen attended meetings of the Collegiants sect in Rijnsburg. He was a supporter of Johan de Witt, whose murder in 1672 ended the 'stadtholderless' period. A later contentious relationship with the Stadtholder in Amsterdam made him resign from political life in 1686. Later in life, he published works on his religious views and started prophesising the end of the world. Due to his deteriorating mental health and financial situation, he was put under guardianship.
