Scientific Officer, Operational Research Service, RAF Bomber Command (1942-1946); Scientific Officer, Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell (1947-1961), where he started to work on nuclear fusion in 1955, when he became the leader of the Physics Research Team at Harwell; British fusion programme transferred to Culham, where he became Division Head, Culham Laboratory for Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion (1961-1967), Assistant Director UKAEA Research Group (1967), Director Culham Lab (1968-1981), Programme Director for fusion (1981-1987), United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, Culham; President, Institute of Physics (1978-1980); founder member of Pugwash Association; Chairman, British Pugwash Group (1988-2002); awarded Glazebrook Medal (1989); Visitor, Blackett Laboratory, Imperial College London (1992-1997).
Pease was a strong advocate for the use of nuclear power, but equally opposed to the use of nuclear weapons.
