OtherInfoChristopher Hooley conducted important work on the analytic theory of numbers, especially in the application of sieve methods. He made extensive studies of these intricate techniques and, as a consequence, succeeded in throwing light on a number of difficult problems. Particularly was is his research on the celebrated conjecture of Artin that concerns primitive roots, and on asymptotic formulae in the additive theory of numbers.

Professor Christopher Hooley FRS died on 13 December 2018.
