Career:
Joined Diplomatic Service (1824); served in Berlin, Vienna and Florence. MP for Canterbury (1835-1841, 1847-1850). In 1849 took the name of Denison to comply with the will of his uncle, the banker and MP, William Joseph Denison, whose wealth he inherited. First President of the British Archaeological Association and later of the Numismatic Society.
