OtherInfoWilloughby's wealth and status, achieved both through his own family and his family-in-law, led him to be a involved in various political appointments and he continued to extend his influence in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. He was at the centre of Tory politics in the county and was raised to the peerage in 1712 to add to their support on the House of Lords. He was subscribed to Ephraim Chambers' 'Cyclopaedia', a universal dictionary of arts and sciences. He was barely active in the Royal Society after his election and only paid his contributions twice.
