OtherInfo | Henchman remained largely inactive in the day-to-day work of the Society. He lost money and property during the Civil Wars and remained in contact with other excluded members of the clergy, e.g. Gilbert Sheldon (FRS 1665). Through his marriage in 1630 to the daughter of a former bishop of Salisbury and the niece of the current one, John Davenant, he gained wealth, property, and access to a clerical dynasty of sorts. He made an annual subscription and in his will also left a bequest towards the rebuilding of St Paul's cathedral after the Great Fire in 1666. |
