OtherInfoWheler's parents, as royalists, were in exile in Breda when he was born. During his travels, Wheler collected marbles, inscriptions, and plants, which he gave to botanists, such as John Ray (FRS 1667). After his death, his collection of antiquities and botanical specimens went to the University of Oxford and his Greek and Latin manuscripts to Lincoln College. He was barely active in the Royal Society's work and paid only his admission fee.
