OtherInfoFrankenau was well-known for his poetry at a relatively young age and is said to have composed works in German, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. His medical work and treatises were well-received in aristocratic circles. In 1693, Frankenau and his son had to accompany the Elector of Saxony on his campaign against France and were heavily affected by the spread of infectious diseases amongst the troops. He published numerous medical and anatomical works and is in some circles most remembers for his text 'De ovis paschalibus' (1682), in which he is the first to mention the spreading idea of the Easter Bunny in the Protestant areas of Alsace and the Palatinate. He was never in the Royal Society lists after his election and was inactive in its work.
