OtherInfoTowards the beginning of his clerical career, Sheldon became acquainted with members of the Great Tew circle, a group of clerics and literary figures brought together by Lucius Cary. He also was friends with Edward Hyde (FRS 1665). Later on, Sheldon was a participant in the negotiations for the Uxbridge treaty in 1645, having connections amongst Royalist leaders. He raised money for the poorer members of the clergy as well as for Charles II in exile during the Protectorate.
