Entered his uncle's firm, Matthew Hall and Co, sanitary engineers; photographed stars. After his uncle's death in 1878 he took over the company and manged it until his retirement in 1890. involved with Ealing firm of Ottaway & Co. in developing improved optical gunsights for the British army and navy.
