General context | While Deepdene estate does not survive, Howard's botanical and horticultural legacy remains with the herbarium, now at Arundel Castle. Howard was generally not a particularly publically active figure, although he was a victim of blackmail involving Titus Oates, a former Anglican cleric, as well as the litigation case against his brother, which was ultimately decided in Howard's favour a year after his brother Henry's death in 1684. |
